This subfamily is distributed from Africa to New
<collectingCountry id="4FDA763DFFC9FF8269978AE635106BFB" box="[724,808,211,235]" name="Guinea-Bissau" pageId="9" pageNumber="2014">Guinea</collectingCountry>
(table 4). There are four species in Africa, one in
<collectingCountry id="4FDA763DFFC9FF826AF88AC637CF6A1B" box="[443,503,243,267]" name="India" pageId="9" pageNumber="2014">India</collectingCountry>
and
<collectingCountry id="4FDA763DFFC9FF8269758AC134BC6A1B" box="[566,644,244,267]" name="Myanmar" pageId="9" pageNumber="2014">Burma</collectingCountry>
and eleven in the East Indies and Australasia. The widespread occurrence of this family in Africa and
<collectingCountry id="4FDA763DFFC9FF8268CF8B26322F6A3B" box="[908,1047,275,299]" name="Madagascar" pageId="9" pageNumber="2014">Madagascar</collectingCountry>
suggests that its primary evolutionary centre was Africa and that the family had reached
<collectingCountry id="4FDA763DFFC9FF826B838B6636C46A7B" box="[192,252,339,363]" name="India" pageId="9" pageNumber="2014">India</collectingCountry>
before that subcontinent became united with southern Asia, from whence this family spread into the East Indies and Australasia. The presence of six species of

, during a period of low sea level Jackson, (1995).
