Chromosome set of the species is 2n = 8. Two metacentric chromosomes (AB and CD), one submetacentric—EF and one telocentric chromosome—G. The centromere regions of the chromosomes are characterised by distinct dark bands (

). In the Bulgarian populations, the band sequences in arm A are in homozygous inverted sequences A2.2 (
