Hind margin of preopercle with two spines; dorsal-fin rays 9099; anal-fin rays 7381; pectoral-fin rays 2730; precaudal vertebrae 1213; total vertebrae 5357; pseudobranchial filaments 48; long rakers on anterior gill arch 812; head length 2125% SL; pelvic-fin length 1220% SL, fins not reaching anus; orbit length 4.05.4% SL and 1824% HL; longest gill filament 1.22.2% SL and 5.09.7% HL; dorsal fin with large ocellus placed slightly behind line through anus, spot distance 4350% SL and spot covers 511 dorsal-fin rays, rarely extending ventrally onto body; preserved specimens with dark-brown ocellus spot; no vertical bars on body; otolith length 5.15.8% SL, sulcus length 3.94.7% SL, and ostium height 1418% sulcus length and 2024% ostium length.
