<paragraph id="D04BBFBD154163F957746F96D34FAC82" pageNumber="182">Worker.-Length 4.2 to 8 mm. Differing from the typical form of the subspecies in color. The small workers are entirely black instead of brown; the large ones black, with the head blood red, darkened on the vertex, the antennal scapes black, the funiculi dark brown, especially towards their tips, and the thorax in some apparently less mature individuals, deep castaneous. The medium and large workers have the flattened bases of the epinotal spines distinctly and often sharply angulate externally.</paragraph>
