|
|
The adults are medium sized. The labial palpi are moderately long and porrect with the second segment slightly curved and weakly to moderately dilated distally by a dorsal scale tuft. The forewing is highly variable in shape, subrectangular, elongate-subtruncate, or moderately broad, with a distally curved costa; most species are brightly colored, often featuring shades of green or brownish-gray with an ocellar area containing a rounded brown spot.

species are characterized by the following genital characters: male with long, narrow, somewhat triangular tegumen; uncus short, usually obtuse, replaced in some species; socius extending from base of uncus, rather long, slender, and pendulous with setae on inner surface, apically clavate; gnathos forming a weakly sclerotized or simple membranous median band; valva variable in shape, complicated, with a short costal process, most species with distinct neck; posterior edge of basal opening weakly sclerotized; sacculus bearing one or two spine clusters protruding at sacculus ventrally in some species; cucullus with ventral side more or less prominent, constricted near middle, often with strong spines or band of long bristles, sometimes with scale tuft from outer surface of ventral margin; aedeagus moderate in length, slender, curved, only weakly tapering towards apex; vesica without cornuti; sterigma funnel-shaped with variably developed ventral margin, spinulose, weakly sclerotized, with a deep split mesially; colliculum long, sclerotized in some species; anterior portion of ductus bursae sclerotized ventrally, with ductus seminalis originating from mid-length or farther posterad of ductus bursae; corpus bursae round to pear-shaped; signum a single thorn-shaped sclerite or two rounded small patches on the wall of the corpus, often unequal in size.
