A relatively common species recorded from all the worlds oceans, except the Mediterranean Sea, with a preference for warmer waters. Juveniles tend to be found in relatively shallower waters (

indicated that it might eventually be found in the Southern Ocean. Thus, the above are the first records for the Southwest Atlantic and Southeast Pacific Sectors. Its occurrence there may be because of the incursion of warm water as it is at the extreme southern range of the sub-Antarctic Zone.
