This genus originally described from Iran with only one species,

). This monobasic genus is superficially similar to

. Morphologically,
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Thripidae" genus="Ficothrips" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Ficothrips" order="Thysanoptera" pageId="7" pageNumber="34" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Ficothrips</taxonomicName>
is interesting because simultaneously bears two charchter states that have been evolved rarely in
<taxonomicName family="Thripidae" lsidName="" pageId="7" pageNumber="34" rank="family">Thripidae</taxonomicName>
: nine antennal segments and severall long setae on the pronotum. The species was collected on fig leaves infested by
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Tetranychidae" genus="Eotetranychus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Eotetranychus hirsti" order="Trombidiformes" pageId="7" pageNumber="34" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="hirsti">Eotetranychus hirsti</taxonomicName>
Pritchard and Baker (
