This minute native species (1.4-1.6mm) is easily distinguished from all other

occurring in Quebec by its extremely wide and convex shape, its tiny size (genus
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Curculionidae" genus="Buchananius" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Buchananius" order="Coleoptera" pageId="4" pageNumber="99" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Buchananius</taxonomicName>
Kissinger, 1957, contains the smallest members of Nearctic
<taxonomicName lsidName="" pageId="4" pageNumber="99" rank="subfamily" subfamily="Baridinae">Baridinae</taxonomicName>
) and its vestiture of sparse but long erect scales. The only other North American congener,
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Curculionidae" genus="Buchananius" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Buchananius sulcatus" order="Coleoptera" pageId="4" pageNumber="99" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="sulcatus">Buchananius sulcatus</taxonomicName>
(LeConte, 1876), has been recorded as developing in the fruiting bodies of the fungus
