), autosome pair 1 is the longest, and remaining autosomes gradually decrease in length so that pair 11 is about a quarter of the length of pair 1. All autosomes are metacentric to submetacentric. The X chromosome is metacentric, about as long as autosome pair 5, and the Y chromosome is dotlike.
