Morphological autapomorphies include the tendo superficialis hallucis that tapers from an expanded corner of the aponeurosis plantaris; with fibers of the m. transversus plantae distalis originating on distal tarsal 23 inserting on the lateral side of the tendon (several of homoplasy, see appendix 1); the unique skull ornamentation composed of sharp, dorsally pointed spines in the margins of frontoparietal, maxilla, nasal (including canthal ridge), and squamosal, and character states that result in its reproductive mode, including maternal provisioning of trophic eggs to tadpoles (see Jungfer, 1996).</paragraph>
