Form oblong, elongate; scape with lateral spine; antennae capitate with antennomeres IXXI expanded, elongate, or serrate; antennae usually sexually dimorphic; mandibles either slender, without teeth, or stout, bidentate; mandibles usually with expanded lateral sides; simple lateral pronotal ridge present; hypomera simple; legs slender; protibiae with one apical spur; lateral surfaces of meso- and metatibiae with setae and irregularly placed spines; tarsomere IV simple; pretarsal claws simple; protarsomere I without sex combs; aedeagus elongate, with dorsally open basal piece; median lobe distinct, fused with lateral lobes, with notched apices, without dorsal basal struts; bursa bifurcate, highly modified, laterally constricted; spermatheca sclerotized, divided, U-shaped.
