, this is one of the more distinct species of smaller

. Once seen it is difficult to confuse it with other species in the genus. Its highly shining surface, distinct punctate striae and brown color are characteristic. I would add that it is one of the only six North American species with setae underneath the last tarsomeres of each leg. The other ones belong to different groups and are morphologically very distinct. Allen certainly planned to rule on the status of this taxon but forgot to do so.
