. Originally a Neotropical species it is now cosmopolitan. Originally subcorticolous (and also reported from old bees nests) in the field, it is now a pest of stored products, particularly raw or yellow-crystal sugar. It has also been reported from rice, dried apples, ginger, and cassia (
