was one of several species of African moths described by Francis Walker from the collection of William DUrban (18361934). Walker stated the type locality simply as “
<collectingCountry id="DBA676133E51FFDCD891F817EF28F9E6" box="[1236,1383,1951,1977]" name="South Africa" pageId="5" pageNumber="236">South Africa</collectingCountry>
” but it can be presumed the specimens originated from the East London/King Williams Town area where DUrban was based in the early 1860s (

). Upon his return to

, he became the first curator of RAMM where his

. Based on the close proximity and similar habitat of MSR to the type locality of Walkers taxon, it is believed that the figured specimen (

differs from MSR, Zambian and Tanzanian specimens with PWDs of 2.22.7% (n=5) suggesting that the
<typeStatus id="7C0A88213E52FFDFD891FD3BEF62FC92" box="[1236,1325,691,717]" pageId="6" pageNumber="237" type="neotype">neotype</typeStatus>
specimen may refer to a different taxon entirely. The natural history stores at RAMM could not be accessed during the period of this present research but it is possible that Walkers
<typeStatus id="7C0A88213E52FFDFDEB9FD73E911FD4A" box="[764,862,763,789]" pageId="6" pageNumber="237" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
specimen is extant, and a new

designation will not be made until further investigations are conducted.
