This species may be distinguished from all eastern

but

based on the combination of reddish body and elytra with short, bristle-like setae that are directed obliquely laterad (

we provide further evidence to maintain the status of these species based on the following consistent and unambiguous differences: internal sac of aedeagus of
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" genus="Tinotus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Tinotus caviceps" order="Coleoptera" pageId="5" pageNumber="124" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="caviceps">Tinotus caviceps</taxonomicName>
with lower sclerite hooked ventrally in lateral view, not hooked in

; in both sexes, antennomere III of
