The species was described by Mulsant (1858) based on two specimens, one from Var Department (afterwards probably considered as type locality) and another from Sicily, which actually refers to the

. The aedeagus is more curved and thicker, differently than in the Maghrebian and the Sicilian species. Tarsal claws are distincly hooked (
