As shown in three earlier papers (Palmgren 1978 a &amp; b, 1979), all species of the family
<taxonomicName id="5F9644593374B215203C7F14B2F39AE5" family="Tetragnathidae" pageId="0" pageNumber="161" rank="family">Tetragnathidae</taxonomicName>
studied by me differ from all species of other araneomorph spider families that I have dissected in the following respects: They have a posterior unpaired dorsal caecum (behind the dorsal apodeme) and lateral caecal branches extending not only to the coxae of the walking legs but also to the chelicers and, with the possible exception of
<taxonomicName id="4830A24D1766D24AA146CF7D8D6BFE7C" class="Arachnida" family="Tetragnathidae" genus="Tetragnatha" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" order="Araneae" pageId="0" pageNumber="161" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="striala" subGenus="Eugnatha">Tetragnalha (Eugnalha) striala</taxonomicName>
, to the pedipalps; these lateral branches protrude between the tergo-coxal muscles as pouches which extend more or less along the margin of the cephalothorax and contain guanine crystals. None of the species of the family
<taxonomicName id="74261CD554003BA3B76A7E7DE3488C2F" family="Araneidae" pageId="0" pageNumber="161" rank="family">Araneidae</taxonomicName>
, including the genus

, share these features with the tetragnathids. The conclusion that
<taxonomicName id="D8CD0699F88C2DBC5481FE440C94C406" class="Arachnida" family="Tetragnathidae" genus="Meta" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" order="Araneae" pageId="0" pageNumber="161" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Mela</taxonomicName>
should not be included in the family
<taxonomicName id="88DB8E20F35FD8F1B1D869091D1331B4" family="Tetragnathidae" pageId="0" pageNumber="161" rank="family">Tetragnathidae</taxonomicName>
(cf. Locket et al. 1974) is in accordance with

views, founded on the anatomy of the eyes.

was excellent. In the other specimens, the brain and the cheliceral and pedipalpal ganglia in particular had suffered maceration, but all essential features of the musculature and the intestinal organs could be clearly distinguished. When necessary, two specimens were compared.
