This group was proposed in a recent monograph on the

classification (

). It is characterized by a blackish or reddish head, a very well-developed median ocellus (

. This character is interpreted as convergence, since both groups are found in different subfamilies, and are separated by many other characters such as the shape of the hind femur tegmina, and pattern of wing venation (
