provided a thorough description of the

, and three
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869EF14913FE886B78" box="[151,263,1536,1562]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="paratype">paratypes</typeStatus>
(AMNH 235457) from the Admiralty Archipelago. He noted that
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869A484913FB116B78" box="[1070,1182,1536,1562]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="paratype">paratypes</typeStatus>
differ from the
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869B384913FF466B20" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
in several aspects of colour pattern, the most conspicuous being a dark loreal region in the
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869A9E493BFAE76B20" box="[1272,1384,1576,1602]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="paratype">paratypes</typeStatus>
that is lacking in the
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869F304943FE4E6B08" box="[342,449,1616,1642]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="holotype">holotype</typeStatus>
. Re-examination of the
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869CB04943FC866B08" box="[726,777,1616,1642]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42">type</typeStatus>
series has confirmed these differences although the dark loreal region of the three
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869FAF496BFDB66BF0" box="[457,569,1656,1682]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="paratype">paratypes</typeStatus>
has faded somewhat over time in preservative. During field work in the Admiralty Archipelago during
<date id="FF8FF5A1FFD0FF869C6549B3FD3D6BD8" box="[515,690,1696,1722]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" value="2001" valueMax="2002">2001 and 2002</date>
a number of frogs resembling
<taxonomicName id="4C31A8E2FFD0FF869A7A49B3FB166BDB" box="[1052,1177,1696,1721]" class="Amphibia" family="Ceratobatrachidae" genus="Platymantis" kingdom="Animalia" order="Anura" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" phylum="Chordata" rank="species" species="gilliardi">

</taxonomicName>
were obtained. Based on differences in advertisement call structure and consistent morphological differences two species are identified within these samples. One species closely resembles the
<typeStatus id="548A6DC3FFD0FF869D1E49E3FC526A68" box="[888,989,1776,1802]" pageId="1" pageNumber="42" type="paratype">paratype</typeStatus>
series of

and consistently possesses a dark loreal region, indicating that the absence of this character in the

of

is not due to variation within that species. The other species has much longer legs than the
