Although the area is managed as a reserve by a private NGO, it is one of the last premontane forests still remaining in this region, and is under continuous pressure from local people. Moreover, the area of the reserve is currently for sale. Thus, its future is uncertain. The second population, located near El Carmen de Chucurí, about
<quantity id="4CC162D4FFDE533DFF4E8A96305AF914" box="[207,280,1678,1703]" metricMagnitude="4" metricUnit="m" metricValue="5.6" pageId="1" pageNumber="102" unit="km" value="56.0">56 km</quantity>
north of the latter, is found on the western slopes of the Serranía de Los Yariguíes, a mountain massif derived from the Eastern Cordillera. Most of the massif is within the Serranía de Los Yariguíes National Park, which preserves about

The remnant forests adjacent to the national park are the focus of human activities such as colonization for agriculture and the establishment of pastures for cattle. The two known locations define a narrow triangle with base
