Classified as Least Concern on The IUCN Red List. Although the Ochre Mole-rat is widespread, populations appear to be very localized, and given the lack of basic ecological and demographic insight, its conservation status is largely unknown. It probably occurs in protected areas such as Garamba National Park in north-eastern DR Congo.
