||
This species is named for Ngai Tahuhu, whose rohe includes Tangihua Forest. Ngai Tahuhu were driven from their land during the mid-18th century by the Ngapuhi chiefs Te Ponaharakeke and Te Ngarokiteuru, who joined forces to accomplish this feat.
