This adventive species was known on this continent until recently only from the four specimens upon which Hayward (1897: 129) described his

Erwin and Kavanaugh (1980: 241) stated that the species was probably "accidentally introduced into Massachusetts from England through shipping in the late 1800s, that a population was sustained for a short time, but that it is not likely to have persisted to the present." However, more than 80 specimens were collected between 2007 and 2010 in Boston Harbor, Suffolk County, Massachusetts (Davidson and Rykken 2011: 491).
