diplomat in Rio de Janeiro in the early nineteenth century and is known to have collected natural history specimens in

and elsewhere in South
<collectingCountry id="F34117B40A3AF54FFE74CFA2ABDBFC34" box="[395,495,908,933]" name="United States of America" pageId="63" pageNumber="64">America</collectingCountry>
. In the same hand, the label also reads “Rio Rapunini Schomburgk”, and Schomburgk had led an expedition in the then

). Also on this label, in another hand, is written “Original zu Phil. Chemn ed rev. 5,1”, indicating that it was the specimen illustrated by

. This detailed labelling indicates that the

is almost certainly a New World species. The locality on the

label and given by

<typeStatus id="54EDE9860A3AF54FFD91C8A9A8ECFB31" box="[622,728,1159,1184]" pageId="63" pageNumber="64" type="lectotype">lectotype</typeStatus>
. Therefore, one or both of the MNHNCL specimens either 1) were not part of the
<typeStatus id="54EDE9860A3AF54FFE74C883AB8FFB54" box="[395,443,1197,1221]" pageId="63" pageNumber="64">type</typeStatus>
series of Philippi and were misidentified, mis-labelled or a label from a different lot became associated with them; 2) were part of the
<typeStatus id="54EDE9860A3AF54FFD11C8FEA92AFB79" box="[750,798,1232,1256]" pageId="63" pageNumber="64">type</typeStatus>
series of Philippi but had been mixed with the ZMB specimen prior to Philippi describing the species and were taken by him to be the same species as the ZMB specimen, or 3) were part of the
<typeStatus id="54EDE9860A3AF54FFDFCC937A807FAA0" box="[515,563,1305,1329]" pageId="63" pageNumber="64">type</typeStatus>
series and of New World origin, and the operculum is from another specimen that was placed with them by mistake. Further research is necessary to resolve the status of the MNHNCL specimens.
