A single relatively small and slightly eroded otolith of 1.7 mm in length is interpreted as representing an unknown species of the genus
<taxonomicName class="Actinopterygii" family="Myctophidae" genus="Taaningichthys" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Taaningichthys" order="Myctophiformes" pageId="0" pageNumber="103" phylum="Chordata" rank="genus">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="0" pageNumber="103">Taaningichthys</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
and is characterized by a relatively elongate shape (OL:OH = 1.4), a regularly curving ventral rim, a nearly flat dorsal rim, a distinct rostrum and a dorsally shifted posterior tip, and a flat inner face, with a supramedian sulcus with a long ostium and a short cauda (OCL:CCL = 2.0).
