throughout tropical and subtropical South America on both sides of the Andes; Moratelli et al., 2013). However, analyses of cytochrome

sequence data have discovered&gt;10 mitochondrial lineages within the range of the nominotypical subspecies (Larsen et al. 2012), highlighting the need for additional revisionary research on these bats.

Ascorra et al. (1993) correctly identified their specimens from Jenaro

. The additional voucher material we examined from the Yavarí-

interfluve conforms to previous descriptions of
<taxonomicName id="F2F44D375695FF20D229FCF6FC7D6654" baseAuthorityName="Schinz" baseAuthorityYear="1821" box="[786,970,788,811]" class="Mammalia" family="Vespertilionidae" genus="Myotis" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" order="Chiroptera" pageId="137" pageNumber="137" phylum="Chordata" rank="species" species="nigricans">

, with measurements that fall within the range of size variation previously documented for the species.
