The examination of the syntypes of
<taxonomicName id="9903BA26C2E22A9A76FB2E00411AD9AE" class="Arachnida" family="Araneidae" genus="Araneus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Araneus apobleptus" order="Araneae" pageId="5" pageNumber="6" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="apobleptus">Araneus apobleptus</taxonomicName>
clearly showed that these specimens belong to the genus
<taxonomicName id="DD65C54D1864955120F40555AAE4B6DE" class="Arachnida" family="Araneidae" genus="Cyclosa" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Cyclosa" order="Araneae" pageId="5" pageNumber="6" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Cyclosa</taxonomicName>
due to the shape of the cephalothorax and male and female genitalia. However, the type material represents two different species. Four of the 6 males and 5 of the 10 females (now separated from each other in the vial in the collection of the AM) very closely resemble
<taxonomicName id="990D2E388E447F04DCF67DC88B2F67C6" lsidName="C. insulana" pageId="5" pageNumber="6" rank="species" species="insulana">C. insulana</taxonomicName>
as illustrated in

), whereas the remaining specimens have a distinctly different genital morphology. It is beyond the scope of this study to elucidate the true identity of the syntypes of

, which requires a comprehensive revision of the Australian/Oriental
<taxonomicName id="EF9ACE3A33122D8DC864B2074C71024A" class="Arachnida" family="Araneidae" genus="Cyclosa" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Cyclosa" order="Araneae" pageId="5" pageNumber="6" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Cyclosa</taxonomicName>
and the designation of a lectotype for the species. As part of this review, I propose the transfer of this species to
