The extraordinary differences described between the tegmen of these two, strikingly similar species, mandates serious introspection regarding the importance of genital structure as a tool for determining species’ relationships. That the median lobes of the two species are so similar in structure, only adds to the difficulty of explaining the apparent anomaly. The author has examined the genitalia of more than 100 species of
|
