Maddison, 2008: 167. Type locality: &quot;Ottauquechee River, Bridgewater (250 m), Windsor Co[unty], Vermont&quot; (original citation). Holotype (♂) in USNM. Etymology. The specific name was proposed in honor of Klaus Rothfels [1919-1987], one of
<normalizedToken id="1581182D04A2A14FC4864D0EC833EFA0" originalValue="Canadas">Canada's</normalizedToken>
outstanding cytogeneticists. Working at the University of Toronto, Rothfels specialized on the evolutionary analysis of speciation in black flies.

<paragraph id="1F5692D329BD5A24448DE02B08EF124B" pageId="361" pageNumber="362">This species ranges from Cape Breton Island to east-central Missouri, south to southwestern Mississippi and southern North Carolina along the Appalachian Mountains [see Maddison 2008: Fig. 19].</paragraph>
