This species commonly attacks bananas (

). The subspecies was described from eastern
<collectingCountry id="F3047678FFEF4558FEEEFDC355B8FD97" box="[355,451,599,625]" name="Panama" pageId="7" pageNumber="8">Panama</collectingCountry>
, but commonly occurs in northern
<collectingCountry id="F3047678FFEF4558FCECFDC357AFFD97" box="[865,980,599,625]" name="Colombia" pageId="7" pageNumber="8">Colombia</collectingCountry>
and northern
<collectingCountry id="F3047678FFEF4558FBF7FDC3508DFD97" box="[1146,1270,599,625]" name="Venezuela" pageId="7" pageNumber="8">Venezuela</collectingCountry>
. We know of only two
<collectingCountry id="F3047678FFEF4558FE65FDEB5637FD7F" box="[488,588,639,665]" name="Trinidad and Tobago" pageId="7" pageNumber="8">Trinidad</collectingCountry>
specimens. One was curated amongst
<collectingCountry id="F3047678FFEF4558FB92FDEB50F8FD7F" box="[1055,1155,639,665]" name="Trinidad and Tobago" pageId="7" pageNumber="8">Trinidad</collectingCountry>
specimens of
<taxonomicName id="4C134D6BFFEF4558FE85FD3355E6FD26" box="[264,413,679,704]" class="Insecta" family="Castniidae" genus="Telchin" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" order="Lepidoptera" pageId="7" pageNumber="8" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="licus">

, with which this species is easily confused. The easiest way to separate the two species is that

It is possible that

has been overlooked and may be more common than these two records indicate. However, it has been suggested that

, the Guianas, and eastern

, and it may be that

. Miller and believe that both are valid species. Interestingly, the
