Gills biserial, 13 pairs. Rostrum triangular. Ocular acicles simple. Crista dentata with 1 accessory tooth. Right cheliped usually massive, chela operculate or semioperculate; dactyl frequently articulating obliquely with palm. Ambulatory legs with dactyls and propodi of pereopods 3 frequently dissimilar. Sternite of somite XII (thoracomere 6, pereopods 3) with subsemicircular to subrectangular anterior lobe. Pereopod 4 semichelate; propodal rasp with 1 to 4 rows of corneous scales, with or without preungual process. Male with pleopods 3–5. Female with pleopod 1 paired, modified; pleopods 2–5. Telson with terminal margins oblique, concave or straight.
