apparently did not realize that the premolars, which formed a part of his diagnosis, were deciduous teeth. Although the deciduous dentitions of a few brontotheres species have been documented, there are too few species with documented deciduous dentitions to confidently identify juvenile brontothere specimens to the species level or diagnose new species. The mandible, DMNH 487, could belong to a number of brontothere species of a similar geologic age.
