has narrower foliar blades that are white lepidote abaxially whereas the adaxial surface looks wrinkled. When the leaf blades dry, a thin layer from the adaxial epidermis peels off, apparently the cuticle because we did not observe foliar trichomes on the adaxial surface. This species is well characterized by its densely flowered spikes of both staminate and pistillate flowers.
