species in his paper. One he referred to

L., the other was not provided with a specific epithet, but he gave a native name gowry-phul which translates as claret-purple fruit according to

was clearly referring to Hardwickes description of this plant in his account of

. He also wrote that Hardwicke introduced the plant to the Calcutta Botanic Garden. Roxburghs specific epithet was printed as two separate words in Flora Indica. I contract them to one as subsequent authors have. There is a Roxburgh icon of the plant, presumably drawn from material grown at Calcutta. Hardwicke also had a drawing (Vol. X no. 55).
