Most species in this small section are readily recognized by slender,

thick, long-creeping rhizomes; the presence of two aerophores on the rhizomes just behind each petiole (the aerophores are often hidden by scales); pale brown rhizome scales; the absence of hydathodes and phyllopodia; and echinulate spores. One atypical species in this group is
