Since the holotype of
<taxonomicName class="Magnoliopsida" family="Euphorbiaceae" genus="Croton" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Plantae" lsidName="Croton anisatus" order="Malpighiales" pageId="12" pageNumber="13" phylum="Tracheophyta" rank="species" species="anisatus">
<emphasis italics="true" pageId="12" pageNumber="13">Croton anisatus</emphasis>
</taxonomicName>
has only young inflorescences in bud and is known only from cultivation on a quite different island, we designate an epitype with open flowers. This littoral species can be characterized by its very congested inflorescences and the pseudoverticillate, anisophyllous, and sparsely lepidote-pubescent leaves with an entire margin. The plant is apparently quite aromatic as indicated by the descriptions of both the holotype and epitype, as well as by its specific epithet.
