Differs from the other described subgenera of
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenes" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenes" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Pellenes</taxonomicName>
in having the TmA smaller than the embolus. The TmA of
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenattus" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenattus" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Pellenattus</taxonomicName>
is often reduced to a small protuberance (Figs 72, 73, 75, 77,
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenes" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenes peninsularis" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="peninsularis">Pellenes peninsularis</taxonomicName>
), or if as long as the embolus, then it is narrower than it (Fig. 86,
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenes" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenes canadensis" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="canadensis">Pellenes canadensis</taxonomicName>
). In Old World species placed in described subgenera, the TmA is distinctly broader and larger than the embolus proper. The breadth of their TmA could be considered a synapomorphy of the four described subgenera, thereby excluding
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenattus" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenattus" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Pellenattus</taxonomicName>
. Alternatively, the narrowness of the TmA in
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Pellenattus" higherTaxonomySource="GBIF" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Pellenattus" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Pellenattus</taxonomicName>
could be considered a synapomorphy with
<taxonomicName class="Arachnida" family="Salticidae" genus="Habronattus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Habronattus" order="Araneae" pageId="13" pageNumber="58" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Habronattus</taxonomicName>
. Those Old World species with a small TmA are primarily African (e.g.,

, 1999) and as yet unplaced to subgenus.
