The diverse genus
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" genus="Scopaeus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Scopaeus" order="Coleoptera" pageId="11" pageNumber="40" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="genus">Scopaeus</taxonomicName>
is greatly in need of revision in North America and thus,
<taxonomicName class="Insecta" family="Staphylinidae" genus="Scopaeus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Scopaeus minutus" order="Coleoptera" pageId="11" pageNumber="40" phylum="Arthropoda" rank="species" species="minutus">Scopaeus minutus</taxonomicName>
can only be recognized currently by the form of the aedeagus (Fig. 17).

This exotic Palaearctic species was first reported from North America by

, Canada; however, no specimen data were provided. Herein we confirm its presence in North America and newly report it from Ontario based on numerous voucher specimens collected from 2009-2010 (Map 16). It is widely distributed in the Palaearctic region (
