(1) Outline: trapezoid to rounded trapezoid or rounded (small otoliths); (2) excisura: variable, mostly wide and deeply incised; (3) rostrum: mostly longer than the antirostrum; (4) antirostrum: sometimes hook-shaped with the tip pointing in the anterior or in the ventral direction; (5) dorsal rim: convex, smooth; (6) posterior rim: mostly sloping or convex and smooth; (7) ventral rim: straight, smooth; (8) crista superior: bulging or thin; (9) crista inferior: typically faintly expressed; the area beneath the crista bears knobs; (10) inner face: flat; (11) outer face: slightly or moderately convex, often thickened in the posterior portion.
