The unique synaphobranchid larvae collected during the spring belongs to the
<taxonomicName id="54EDB580C4C4F91785DD2534E43F34C4" ID-CoL="63TSK" ID-ENA="118153" LSID-ZBK="urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act:8116F87B-D78D-462D-8522-175CF2A1167B" class="Actinopterygii" family="Synaphobranchidae" genus="Synaphobranchus" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName-ZBK="Synaphobranchus Johnson 1862:169" order="Anguilliformes" pageNumber="10" phylum="Chordata" rank="genus">Synaphobranchus</taxonomicName>
group, which have a simple gut without pigment (Smith, 1989f) (Figure 13). It was collected over the isobath of 1,000 m near the south region of Bahia State (Figure14). According to Smith (1989f), the larvae of this family occur at greater depths than are other leptocephali. Study Material: DZUFRJ 2845; one specimen; total myomeres 132; 34.4 mm SL.
