<paragraph id="CA5D32C413D512DBE53161DE4C77A435" pageId="7" pageNumber="76">Diagnosis.</paragraph>
<paragraph id="A4BE77FB67A24A8F77F72DE3CF753CFB" pageId="7" pageNumber="76">Shell to 20 mm, thin, subovate, posteriorly truncate, sculpture of numerous fine, often indistinct radial ribs crossed by fine commarginal threads. Hinge plate thin, small single cardinal tooth in RV, two cardinals in LV, lateral teeth very small or obsolete. Anterior adductor scar short, detached for 1/3 of length. Interior shell margin finely to coarsely dentate. Colour pale orange to rusty red-brown, sometimes blotchy.</paragraph>

The unusual and rare genus
<taxonomicName id="6D6F6115AD5B23F80AA6EC46B5D723E5" class="Bivalvia" family="Lucinidae" genus="Ferrocina" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Animalia" lsidName="Ferrocina" order="Lucinida" pageId="7" pageNumber="76" phylum="Mollusca" rank="genus">Ferrocina</taxonomicName>
was first recognised from Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia at depths from 80-400 m (

) and is known from a few shells of the type species. A second species has been identified from the Philippines (

) also from a few shells. From shell features including the dentition and presence of a pallial blood vessel scar we classify this genus in the
<taxonomicName id="F06C5AD364F85980DB6AB65D48EE8157" lsidName="" pageId="7" pageNumber="76" rank="subFamily" subFamily="Lucininae">Lucininae</taxonomicName>
. Additionally the ramshorn shaped visceral extension is also seen in the lucinine
