Samen nicht mehr feststellbarer Arten kamen bereits 1614 aus Nordamerika nach Europa; schon 1619 wurde die Gattung in Basel in

gehalten und ist wahrscheinlich bald verwildert. Seither wurden zahlreiche Arten aus Amerika als Zierpflanzen bezogen und sind in der Alten Welt verwildert; dabei sind viele neue Sippen entstanden, und entsprechend den
<emphasis id="6218EC07A6170D3C5D7CC6AB37F5E14C" italics="true" pageId="null" pageNumber="769">genetischen und zytologischen Besonderheiten</emphasis>
dieser Gattung,
