Basidiome annual, resupinate, membranaceous, effused. Mature parts continuous, with a hard and rather brittle texture. Hymenium smooth; pale

The hymenium of

is very thick and dense in comparison to all other
<taxonomicName id="8E6C57F9B29644B963BCEE69D448456D" class="Agaricomycetes" family="Thelephoraceae" genus="Pseudotomentella" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Fungi" lsidName="Pseudotomentella" order="Thelephorales" pageId="54" pageNumber="55" phylum="Basidiomycota" rank="genus">Pseudotomentella</taxonomicName>
species. It consists of tightly packed basidia, which are overlapping in length and have a total thickness equalling four-six basidial lengths. All other morphological characters fit well within the
<taxonomicName id="06E5FCCC048B02C3783435678BC580E1" lsidName="P. tristis" pageId="54" pageNumber="55" rank="species" species="tristis">P. tristis</taxonomicName>
group, thus suggesting an abnormal basidiome.

Within the

group, the basidiome of

can be recognised by its lack of hyphal cords and skeletal hyphae and its hard and brittle texture after drying. This feature makes it unique within the group and the risk for confusion with any other described species should hence be small.
