. Body slender. Anterior part of body to dorsal-fin origin cylindrical; caudal peduncle laterally compressed. Deepest point of body usually anterior to dorsal-fin origin. Head depth greater than width. Snout length longer than postorbital length.Anterior and posterior nostrils widely separated, and the distance between them is larger than distance from posterior nostril to anterior margin of eye, the anterior nostrils tube-like, and not being elongated into a barbel-like structure. Eyes of medium size and normally developed, eye diameter smaller than interorbital width. Mouth inferior. Upper lip with median incision; lower lip incised medially, with two lobes on each side and free. Upper jaw without processus dentiformis; lower jaw smooth. Three pairs of barbels; inner rostral barbel reaching anterior nostril; outer rostral barbel reaching posterior nostril; maxillary barbel reaching posterior margin of eye.

Pelvic-fin origin closer to anal-fin origin than pectoral-fin origin. Caudal peduncle depth less than caudal peduncle length. Caudal fin emarginate.</paragraph>

Coloration of preserved specimens. Head and body with yellowish background colored and brown pattern. Head brown on top to lower margin of eye or with spotted pattern, cheeks and ventral head surface without colored pattern. Pre-dorsal brown or with irregular cloud-like patches. Brown patches on upper caudal peduncle, fused with blotches on flank forming in few individuals. Flank below line between pectoral-fin base and anus without pattern. There are multiple dark brown, irregularly shaped, vertically elongated cloud-like blotches along lateral midline. One distinct, small, roundish or comma-shaped, black spot at upper and lower posterior extremity of caudal peduncle. At the upper and lower posterior extremity of the caudal peduncle, there is one distinct small, roundish or comma-shaped black spot. In some individuals, the upper and lower black spots are connected. Dorsal fin and caudal fin with brown bands of small, elongated blotches on fin-rays. Anal-, pelvic- and pectoral fins hyaline (
