. El dorso es de color negro y fuertemente tuberculado, patrón que se extiende hacia las extremidades. En vida, la región anterior de la cabeza es de color rojo escarlata con negro difuminado. Las extremidades anteriores son de color anaranjado, particularmente en las manos, esta coloración se torna más obscura hacia el antebrazo y parte superior del codo. El primer dedo anterior ligeramente más corto que el segundo, sin membrana interdigital, con leves rebordes cutáneos; el vientre es predominantemente negro. La hembra es ligeramente más grande que los machos y carece de la coloración rojiza de la región anterior de la cabeza.

En preservación los tubérculos son inconspicuos y la superficie de la cabeza y cuerpo presenta leves arrugas; la piel del vientre es lisa; la cloaca presenta una abertura horizontal. La cabeza es del mismo ancho del cuerpo, siendo la parte más ancha de la cabeza a la altura de las orbitas. El hocico es corto, inclinado, truncado en vista dorsal o ventral y redondeado en vista lateral. Las narinas están dirigidas lateralmente, no son visibles desde arriba pero si desde el frente. El canto rostral es redondeado y la región loreal plana y vertical. El tímpano está oculto dorsalmente y solamente su mitad inferior es visible; el diámetro del tímpano es 1/3 del iris, el cual es negro.</paragraph>

En vida, la coloración dorsal negro uniforme, vientre negro con brillo metálico; aletas superior e inferior gris transparente. En preservante, el dorso es canela claro, con las estructuras de la boca visibles desde arriba; abdomen de color negro, con una banda media clara que se extiende hasta la mitad del vientre; periferia del vientre canela transparente. Musculatura de la cola café oscuro en la parte media, en sentido dorso-ventral y gris en el extremo caudal; aletas superior e inferior gris transparente (

Los ejemplares adultos

11511, 13596 y 13659 fueron colectados en horas de la tarde, en la base de árboles y bromelias, en un manto cubierto por raíces, hojarasca y musgo, que tapiza el suelo de arenisca y que los pobladores llaman “bamba”.
