in that they have similar colours in pileus and lamellae; the lamellae in both species also turn more or less blue to dark blue when bruised.

species. In our observation of the two American specimens (
<taxonomicName id="B1A5149A3AB80336CE4974B7602310DD" lsidName="E. aurantiacus" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" rank="species" species="aurantiacus">E. aurantiacus</taxonomicName>
voucher REH7271 and
<taxonomicName id="A5D81B49588ADAA4BF0CF4AD989CB681" lsidName="E. fagicola" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" rank="species" species="fagicola">E. fagicola</taxonomicName>
voucher Garay215), we found that the hymenophoral trama was yellowish hyaline when observed in water. The original description of
<taxonomicName id="108A130BACCB05798D507A0B586CB5AE" lsidName="E. cinnabarinus" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" rank="species" species="cinnabarinus">E. cinnabarinus</taxonomicName>
does not mention the colour of the hymenophoral trama and we could not obtain a specimen to observe this character. However, other morphological characters and phylogenetic evidence are enough to differentiate
<taxonomicName id="9D357E6239B96C4EB0B8AF92969B4053" lsidName="E. suthepensis" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" rank="species" species="suthepensis">E. suthepensis</taxonomicName>
from

Our phylogenetic analyses of a four-gene dataset revealed that

from Costa Rica and
<taxonomicName id="CADA5B31E92EE5664D35B24697338079" lsidName="P. fagicola" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" rank="species" species="fagicola">P. fagicola</taxonomicName>
from Mexico clustered in the
<taxonomicName id="BE654E062429F0D7F7C67892085F95D0" class="Agaricomycetes" family="Boletaceae" genus="Erythrophylloporus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Fungi" lsidName="Erythrophylloporus" order="Boletales" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" phylum="Basidiomycota" rank="genus">Erythrophylloporus</taxonomicName>
clade with high support (BS = 100% and PP = 1). Both species possess the distinctive morphological characters of
<taxonomicName id="1823F91CFD235968EF3683A2D2EA533A" class="Agaricomycetes" family="Boletaceae" genus="Erythrophylloporus" higherTaxonomySource="CoL" kingdom="Fungi" lsidName="Erythrophylloporus" order="Boletales" pageId="0" pageNumber="29" phylum="Basidiomycota" rank="genus">Erythrophylloporus</taxonomicName>
, which include yellowish-orange to reddish-orange basidiomata, orange to orange brown lamellae, bright yellow basal mycelium, ovoid or ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid basidiospores with smooth surface and subcylindrical to subfusoid to ventricose cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia (
