can be recognized by the combination of variable phyllotaxis (opposite, whorled or alternate, sometimes on the same branch), conduplicate and narrowly elliptic leaves, stamen fascicles with three stamens each, two black glands between the thecae, and sepals ascendant to patent on mature berries.
