(see above), body form robust, and occiput and pronotum deeply and coarsely punctate, the latter also partly rugose. Ultimate palpomeres elongate and slightly acuminate. Elytral interneurs striatopunctate, deeply engraved; intervals convex and multipunctate and with three shallow fossae in third interval; apex subtruncate, outer angle rounded.

These small beetles are found in dry or wet leaf litter in Amazonian rainforests independent of water bodies, and particularly along dusty trails. In Costa Rica, they occur at higher elevations in cloud forest. At least two species with adults somewhat reddish in color are found only on the lateritic soils pushed up by members of the ant genus
