, 1998, 2000) shows that some illustrations of the first antennae have linear first and second segments, and some show the two segments at right angles, and juveniles as well as adults of both sexes have first antennae of both forms. Examination of whole specimens showed that when the first and second segments are at right angles, the first antenna is partly withdrawn inside the carapace; whereas when the two segments are linear segments two– eight extend horizontally outside the carapace between the anterior edges of the valves.
