Male thalli consisting of three superposed cells, the uppermost functioning as a single antheridium. Female thalli consisting of a two-celled receptacle, a perithecium and a two-celled primary appendage which usually is vestigial and concealed inside the perithecium or rarely free and distinguishable but very inconspicuous. Perithecium with 45 cells in each vertical row of outer wall cells.</paragraph>
